Why I started doing hair.
I started behind the chair the way most colorists do, working the schedule a busy salon gives you, ten-minute consultations, a new client every hour, and a formula chosen mostly to keep the day moving.
The clients I kept thinking about afterward were the ones who'd been told their hair was too damaged, too fine, or too far gone for the color they wanted. Almost every time, that wasn't really true. Nobody had taken the time to actually plan around it.
So I built my own studio around one rule: every new client gets a real planning call before anything happens in the chair. Twelve years and about five hundred color and extensions clients later, that rule hasn't changed.
Most colorists start with a photo pulled from Pinterest.
I start with a color analysis of the hair actually in my chair.
Because a formula copied from someone else's photo rarely survives contact with your undertone, your history, or your hair.
Close, careful work, every time.
One client in the chair at a time, foils placed and finished by hand. It's slower than a full column of clients, and it's the only way I'll do it.
